TGen spin-off MedTrust Online makes two key hires in its quest to help cancer doctors provide the best patient care

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Oct. 21, 2008 – TGen spin-off MedTrust Online, a reliable one-stop medical information source for oncologists, has added two key executives to its management team.

MedTrust Online, Scottsdale-based, for-profit company, aims to provide oncologists with the knowledge they need to design the best tailor-made treatments for individual patients.

MedTrust Online draws from a variety of sources, including genetic-based medical discoveries by the non-profit, Phoenix-based Translational Genomics Research Institute.

The new executives are:

-- Dr. Leo Otake, a widely published graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine. Otake has been named Vice President of Medical Informatics.

-- Russell J. Clark, an attorney with an extensive background in conducting cancer data analytics and creating proprietary tools to identify and analyze patterns of care. Clark has been named Executive Vice President of Business Development.

Otake’s primary responsibilities include coordinating the collection, organization and distribution of MedTrust Online content, including peer-reviewed medical journals and pharmaceutical databases. He also will be in charge of managing relationships with oncologists and advisers.

Otake, a surgeon and founder of wiredMD.com, brings decades of experience working with doctors to communicate virtually over long distances. He has worked with doctors around the world to help heal those with cleft lips and palates as well as volunteered in Honduras to help those with acquired and congenital hand abnormalities. Among other publications, Otake has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

"The MedTrust Online platform presents a unique nexus of efficient, targeted search tools with content provided by internationally recognized oncologists," Otake said.

Clark’s primary responsibilities include developing business opportunities and recruiting doctors to subscribe to MedTrust. Clark has more than 25 years of experience in health care, legal and business ventures.

Clark has founded or co-founded cancer-related companies, and worked with academic cancer centers, community hospitals and oncology practices.

"MedTrust Online provides the vital link in the translational research process to move new research discoveries from TGen and others to patients in the academic and community practice settings. Being a part of this great team, involved in this important mission is very exciting.," Clark said.

MedTrust is the third company to spin out of TGen Accelerator Management, a firm created in 2003 by the Translational Genomics Research Institute, designed to quickly translate TGen’s genetic research discoveries into medical treatments and services.

TGen and MedTrust signed licensing and services agreements Aug. 5 for TGen-generated technologies that will help MedTrust speed information to oncologists as they seek the best knowledge available about various diseases, especially quality information about potential drug therapies.
